As you may or may not know, Twitt is a Twitter application that’s been development for a long time by the fantastically cool Dan Deming-Henes. I was enlisted in the beta for the application, and was instantly impressed. I began talking to Dan about the qualities of Twitt, and what kind of directions he was heading in. At this stage, Twitt did not have an icon, or a “logo”. This stuck out to me, so I did something I seem to always do, I weaseled my way into Dan’s work and we started bouncing ideas off of one another.
My idea for Twitt’s icon was to do something completely unique for a Twitter application, and that was to create a metaphor free of Twitter’s many “default” ideas. This includes birds, eggs, feathers, message bubbles, etc, etc. My idea right off the bat was a “TwittDroid“, who would be not only the icon, but the mascot for the application itself. He would stare at you in the dock, happily reporting all updates to you via his robotic notification sounds and cute little robot face.
TwittDroid went through a few incarnations, but the two presented here are the final-beta and final-final versions. The happy and effing-adorably smiling TwittDroid is the “final” icon. Dan loved him, I loved him, and we both thought it was a great looking robot…
…But, ultimately, he didn’t make the cut. It was a decision made with the utmost respect on Dan’s part, and I understood his position. Needless to say we both still loved the little bugger so much, for him to never see the light of day would just be wrong.
So here he is, in all his glory. Two iterations of the TwittDroid, and a “Phoney” version. It also includes his robotic notification sounds to use along with Twitt.app. Enjoy!

I love this nearly official version! Much better than the original one. I think that creating a mascot was a nice idea, even for the website design. Thanks for releasing this set.

I love how he ended up going with very overused bubbles for his icon…. Love yours though reminds me of a happy version of the robot in “hitch hikers guide to the galaxy”

It’s really wonderful, and IMHO it’s far superior to the one that shipped with the app.

I love it, they all look amazing! Nice idea as well. Kinda getting sick of all these ‘birds’ good to see a robotic’y/scifi’y take on twitter
